Afghanistan Lapis Is practically unobtainable in the
quality represented on this page. The mines in the Swat Valley
have been taken over by people who are not in sympathy with the US, let us say. If you have been finding it
difficult to find good Lapis Lazuli in any form, there's the reason why.
The top quality, if it can be gotten, is selling by the carat. Basically, get it while you can.
These cabochons are good to top gem
quality. Most gemstone cutters develop their own
styles after several years of practice. I cut mine
with a good, deep kerf for the bezel to hold. I then
dome the top to my inspiration. Designer Cabochons
are "designed", sometimes on paper, sometimes just by
